City of Vancouver Laneway Housing Initiative

Laneway Housing (or LWH) has been approved as a pilot project initiative in the City of Vancouver.  The rules for laneway housing development are complicated, and their approval with the City of Vancouver is just now being tested in legitimate practice.

In general terms, Laneway Housing takes the form of a standard garage building that has been "converted" to living quarters.  However, the guidelines for new development encourage more purpose-built design and development.

The ability to have Laneway Housing on your lot is determined by the characteristics of your lot and its current zoning.

For more information about this initiative, please contact our office.
