In order to practice architecture, individuals and their firms must meet the stringent educational, experience and professional conduct requirements defined and governed by their architectural associations in their provinces or states.  In British Columbia, Canada, the Architectural Institute of British Columbia (AIBC) has been given this mandate.  Only those who have met the requirements of the AIBC can practice architecture in BC and present themselves to the public as architects.

Residential

HEARTH architectural Inc. is an architectural firm whose principals have extensive experience within the architecture and construction fields in BC.  In terms of single family residential design, the principals boast working knowledge gained through many projects in North and West Vancouver, Vancouver, Burnaby, Richmond, Delta, White Rock and beyond, and have acquired a great deal of experience working with families, municipalities, contractors and other design and construction professionals.

HEARTH architectural Inc. was opened as a new architectural practice in the fall of 2006.  Most recently, the principals of HEARTH were former part owners of Kallweit Graham Architecture Inc., a mid-size and successful single family residential practice, and draw from their many years of experience at that company's Vancouver (former) and West Vancouver (present) offices.

At HEARTH architectural Inc. we strive to make the architectural process easy to understand and accessible to all homeowners who are looking to improve their lives by improving their homes.  We believe strongly that where we live is an important contributor to our quality of life.

We have developed an incremental process to ease clients into the daunting realm of house design and construction.  The process consists of three steps:  the consultation, the HEARTH report and then on-going architectural services - and is designed to keep you, our clients, informed and involved in the transformation or creation of your new home.

Joe Muego IA.AAA MRAIC holds a BA in western architectural history and earned his Master's degree in architecture from UBC in 1999, with special recognition for his achievement in Building Structures, and since then has dedicated his career to residential and commercial architecture.  Over that time Joe has focused on the development of all areas of practice, including project delivery, site services, and firm promotion and management.  Joe was also a partner with Kalweit Graham Architecture for 4 years before co-founding Hearth.

On the project level, Joe has amassed broad experience through in depth involvement in many projects throughout Greater Vancouver in his capacity as a senior designer and project administrator, and he is as comfortable behind the drafting table as he is on the construction site.

In addition to his architectural achievements and because of his specific interest in the "hands-on", Joe was recently the part owner and general manager for a design-build construction company completing 4 million dollars of residential construction.  Joe has also been active in community committees, and is currently his local PAC President, for Beach Grove Elementary, as well as a member of the current Tsawwassen Area Planning Committee, through the Corporation of Delta.

Joe is a proud resident of Beach Grove, Tsawwassen, with his family.

Michelle Netrval received her degree in architecture from UBC in 1988 and experienced a wide breadth of project types with the local, well established firms of Frits de Vries Architect Ltd. and Christopher Bozyk Architects Ltd.  Although Michelle was eligible for registration as an architect, she turned her talents and energies toward a passion for landscape design.

Over the years Michelle has honed her skill at integrating landscape elements with architecture, and whether it be specifying appropriate planting or detailing effective outdoor spaces, her background and ability to communicate effectively through drawing has led to countless successful installations.

Colin Gash, BEDS, spent a memorable architectural co-op term working primarily with Wendy Andrews while she was a principal architect with Kallweit Graham Architecture Inc.  Shortly after returning to school, Colin died unexpectedly.

In his memory, HEARTH architectural contributes annually to the Colin Gash Scholarship that is awarded through his alma mater, Dalhousie University, in Nova Scotia.  The scholarship is awarded to a 4th year architecture student who like Colin excels in design and contribution to student life.
